A few days ago, I was lucky enough to come across a Steam Deck in a local tech store, and I've had an absolute blast messing with it. Who would have thought I'd ever see the day Forza Horizon could be running at 80fps in good quality on something that fits in my hands!
The device is insanely comfortable - It looks really chunky but once you hold it you realise the ergonomics are so good that you want to forgive everything you said. Very Wii U Gamepad - esque..
Another thing I was wary of was adding games from outside of Steam, given it uses Linux and Proton. This wasn't as hard as it seems apart from a few strange quirks here and there - it's mostly adding the EXE to a launcher, guessing which Proton or WIne version you need until it works, and in some extreme cases configuring Winetricks or a few directories. I can make tutorials if readers are interested!
The community surrounding the Deck is also something I am immensely enjoying. Everyone is helpful, there are mountains of fantastic resources like ProtonDB, Decky and more that help you maximize the device, and I am thriving in it's tinkerability. It leaves me wondering "What else can be done?" and I love that.
